How to Track Graded MTG Card Prices

Reserved List vintage, modern showcase frames, foil vs nonfoil — graded Magic is its own market. Here is how to track it without lying to yourself about value.

Graded MTG is one of the deepest collectibles markets on the planet. A PSA 10 Beta Black Lotus is its own asset class. But it is also one of the markets where listing prices and sold prices diverge the most — which is exactly why eBay last-sold is the only honest source.

For Reserved List slabs, the listing price is often 30-50% above the actual last-sold. Anchoring on a listing means overpaying or refusing offers that match the real market.

What is tracked

On Flipzi, every MTG card now has grade-specific last-sold pricing where eBay sold-volume supports it: PSA 8, PSA 9, PSA 10, BGS 9, CGC 8, CGC 9, CGC 10. Each grade is its own series — if you missed why that matters, the RAW vs PSA 10 vs BGS 9 piece walks through it.

Reserved List vintage

Beta, Unlimited, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark — the deepest graded MTG market by far. PSA 9 and PSA 10 sales are frequent enough that last-sold data is meaningful and stale flags are rare. Set alerts on the chase cards you would actually buy at and let them fire instead of refreshing eBay.

Modern showcase & specialty frames

Modern Horizons foils, Ravnica showcase, Phyrexian language printings — graded volume is shallower but growing. The 14-day staleness rule keeps you from anchoring on a single fluke sale.

Foil vs nonfoil grading

For MTG specifically, foil and nonfoil are two completely different markets. A nonfoil Beta uncommon in PSA 10 and a foil from a modern set in PSA 10 do not behave the same way at all. Flipzi catalogs each variant separately so foil grading premiums are visible and comparable.

Building a graded MTG portfolio

  1. Add cards by exact set, frame variant, and language.
  2. Pick the grade and grading company on each entry.
  3. Enter your real cost basis — including grading fees, if you want honest P&L.
  4. Let last-sold data do the rest. Stale flags appear automatically when a card has not sold in 14 days.
